The Impact of a Mattress: How a simple donation can change lives and bring hope in dark times

The impact of a mattress goes far beyond a good night's rest, mattresses change lives. In the middle of dark seasons and trials, a mattress brings hope. CityServe Arkansas has seen this impact in the lives of Arkansans across the state. Local churches are ensuring needs are met by providing this necessity to families, single moms and grandparents in their communities. 

In McGhee, Arkansas, McGhee Chapel Missionary Baptist Church knew of a lady in their community who had been forced to move out of her house because it had been taken over by mold. Along with a mold outbreak in her house, the lady had also been diagnosed with cancer. Her health and wellbeing was in danger.  The mold not only took over her house, but also her furniture. Seeing the need, MCMBC was able to provide a new mattress and couch to bless her as she moved into her new home. Dollie Wilson, the church’s CityServe Liaison, said the church had the opportunity to be a blessing. 

“When I tell you this lady cried, she cried tears of joy. She was so grateful, happy and most of all she thanked God for the church and the blessing it was to her,” Wilson reflected. “She said she will be visiting the church soon, but as of now, she can't because the doctor wants her to stay inside and away from crowded areas due to her cancer.”

It is in moments like these that a mattress matters.
